Baptist churches are congregational in the way they are organized. What this means, in simple terms, is that the people in the pew run things, not some outside board, Bishop, or other power. The members own the property, and hold it in trust for the next generation. They assume responsibility for upkeep and improvements or even the disposal if that should ever become necessary. All of this, with a collective eye toward the purpose of God!
The members decide all matters that affect the life and purpose of the church. Everything, from calling a minister, to the times of services, to the make-up of boards and committees, to the annual budget, is voted on by the members. At our two annual meetings we are informed of the activities of the past year and vote on the direction for the year ahead. In January we focus on fiscal matters, voting on the budget for the ensuing year. In May we elect a slate of officers and fill vacant slots on boards and committees for the program year.
Membership is open to all who qualify in any of the following ways:
The congregation of Central Baptist Church is made up of both members and non-members. Both are welcome. Both receive the benefits of pastoral care, opportunities for worship, Sunday School (including the privilege of teaching), participation in all activities, and more. Only members may hold offices, chair boards and committees, and vote on church matters.
If you are interested in learning more about membership, please talk to the pastor. You are always welcome here!
