If you think variety is the spice of life,
you will love our group. Each month's gathering has a flavor all its
own. It can be purely recreational while we enjoy a movie together. It can be challenging as we hear from a local
organization that is a first-responder in crisis situations, and we've found ways to help them achieve their goals.
It can be totally creative as we fabricate one of a kind Valentine's Day cards with personal messages to encourage
servicemen. Whatever the activity, we throw our hearts into it while enjoying each other's company.
As much as we enjoy each
other in our own church, we also have opportunities to enlarge that feeling by meeting with other women across the state
and the nation. It is a delight to meet someone new and realize that we share the same passion. Special events like learning
first hand how Christians are addressing basic needs of people throughout the world and learning that we can help, too. We also have
a chance to challenge our own grouth at spiritual renewal retreats - we always come home with our "socks blessed off"!
Good natured fellowship and good food,
what could be better? On the first Saturday of each month a group of men from our church
gather together over breakfast at a local restaurant. We tell stories, share some of our experiences of the past few weeks, tell some
jokes, and generally have a great time. In meeting this way we develop closer friendships, learn more about each other, and foster a
more cohesive group. This helps to meet the challenges facing our church, and our personal challenges as we try to live as Christians in
today's world. We're always excited to invite a new person into the group - come and enjoy breakfast with us!
During Lent and at other times during the church year, we offer an interactive class in the comfortable living room of the pastor's home. These study groups generally run for a period of four to six weeks, one meeting a week. We have studied Philip Yancey's book "What's So Amazing About Grace?", learned how to receive more of God's love in order to give it away, and learned how to find good in the middle of life's difficult situations. A cup of coffee or a bottle of water, a good book and friends to grow with makes it a night well spent.
People and projects seem to go well together. As a congregation we have several opportunities to work together on the property that God has entrusted to us. Painting, raking leaves, sprucing up our garden and parking areas and more, even work can be fun in the company of friends.
Teacher - Pastor Tom Goldthwaite
One of the real privileges I have as Pastor is to choose my places of service. I really like to teach adults! We have been doing a variety of studies during the course of the year - eight parables of Jesus - four Names and Titles for God - four "Songs of Advent" - twelve weeks in Colossians - four lessons for Holy week - and currently, seven weeks in the Gospel of John.
Our studies are interactive and hopefully informative. As a Biblical Studies major in college with a Master's of Divinity degree from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary, I feel very comfortable wrestling with the Scriptures and finding the gems that help us grow spiritually. There is nothing more important for living the Christian life than knowing God. His Word is the place to start that journey of faith. Come and learn with us!
Several times a year we have special seasonal music, most often at Christmas and Easter, or for a special music based service at Thanksgiving. The Thanksgiving service involves instrumentals, and vocal duets, solos or choir. At Christmas and Easter we form the handbell choir to enhance our services. The handbell choir will meet for rehersals once a week for four or five weeks before the special service. The choir will be multi-generational typically including representatives from gradeschool through retirees. We have a wonderful time practicing and performing, in addition to establishing closer cross generational ties.
